The Minister of Finance, Ali Mahmoud Abdul-Rasoul, has affirmed the availability of funding for expanding the cultivation of wheat, cotton and groundnut and sunflower for production of edible oil in the context of the three-year economic program. This came during his meeting yesterday with the committee for implementation of the three-year economic program. Abdul-Rasoul said that a sum of 60 million dollars was assigned to make available fertilizers and insecticides to boost the cultivation, besides a sum of 50 million dollars from the general budget for rehabilitation of the irrigation infrastructures The Minister of Finance said that 50 million dollars were allocated for expanding the cultivation of wheat Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Abdul-Halim Ismail Al-Muaafi, said that the plan of his ministry in the framework of the three-year economic program aims for cultivating cotton at an area of 650,000 feddans in the country, 300,000 of which is in Gezira Scheme, 200,000 at Rahad, New Halfa and Suki Schemes and 100,000 feddans in Sennar and the Blue Nile States He also referred to plans for expanding the edible oil production through the use of modern technology and special fertilizing programs Dr. Al-Muaafi also referred to plans for increasing the poultry and fodder production for reducing the livestock meat consumption to support the livestock exports
