Open in new windowAssistant of the President of the Republic and Deputy Chairman of the National Congress for the Party's Affairs, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, affirmed that reaching a final and just agreement between Sudan and South Sudan on the oil issue represents the best option
In a statement to the press Tuesday, Dr. Nafie referred to the possibility of accepting a provisional agreement through the mediators according which South Sudan oil can be exported via the north, along with continuity of the dialogue between the two parties for reaching a final agreement
He said that Sudan supports the continuity of the exportation of South Sudan oil even if an agreement is not reached, based on Sudan recognition to the reliance of South Sudan on its oil, provided that Sudan is to get its full rights and can to be taken in kind against the use of Sudan line, loading and refineries
Dr. Nafie said that Sudan policy and dealing with South Sudan issue and oil is very clear and stable and will not be affected by casual stances
Meanwhile, Dr. Nafie said that South Sudan government has the final say and the right to decide on the exportation of oil or its stoppage
He also affirmed Sudan welcome to any effort and initiative exerted for achieving agreement between the two parties, affirming the right of China to mediate between the two states
He indicated that China is an investor in the Sudanese oil, thus it have the right to enable Sudan and South Sudan reach agreement on the oil issue
Dr. Nafie said that agreement or disagreement on the oil issue can never be a cause for military buildup or aggression on Abyei area, adding that Sudan rejects that and will defeat any attempt to attack this area
