The Assistant of the President Nafie Ali Nafie, affirmed that the state has resorted to the economic measures as the single option for stability of the national economy and currency and to halt the inflation. Addressing the Fifth Session of Khartoum State's Legislative Assembly Monday, Mr. Nafie said that the cause of this challenge facing Sudan economy is the determination of the government to press ahead with the development projects. He added that whatever was said about the negative impacts of these actions on the vulnerable segments in the society, but continuation of the current situation is more deadly than the reform measures.
He went on to say that "We have to tell the truth to the people as these reforms are the sole means for recovery of the economy and to bridge the gap between the revenues and expenditures, besides the procedures adopted by the government to reduce the government expenditure.
Mr. Nafie stressed that those who are betting that the people will take to the street due to these measures are dreaming, indicating that many rich countries like America and the countries of Europe have taken more difficult decisions to surpass the global economic crisis.
