The Council of Ministers, chaired by the President of the Republic Omer Albashir will hold today Tuesday an exceptional meeting to discuss the amendment of the general budget for the year 2012 and the package of economic measures aimed to rationalize government spending. In address before the National Legislature Monday, President Albashir announced a package of economic and political procedures to overcome current economic problems facing the country. The economic measures, including a restructuring of the government, reduction of the constitutional positions at the center and the states' levels, besides expanding the social insurance network. The restructuring of the government and administration organs are targeting the constitutional positions at the levels of the Presidency of the Republic, executive institutions, National Legislature, besides reducing the number of the federal ministries and ministers, the state ministers, experts, the officials appointed by contracts with the Presidency of the Republic and the Council of Ministers, equal to around 100 positions. He said that the reduction will include officials assuming constitutional, executive and legislative positions by around 45% to 50%, which is equal to around 260 positions at the state level.
He pointed to the government decision to extend subsidy to the needy categories by increasing the social subsidy and guaranteeing its arrival to the beneficiaries whose number will increase from 500,000 to 750,000 families.
