The General Prosecutor of the Special Court for Crimes in Darfur,Yasir Ahmed Mohamed, has assumed his duties by receiving all files and suits pertinent to crimes in Darfur
The General Prosecutor has affirmed his full keenness to cooperate and coordinate with all the governments of Darfur states, authorities, legal and civil administrations to hear to all files regarding serious crimes that were committed in Darfur region
He said in a press statement , that the state has given a special concern to crimes that had been committed in Darfur during the period 2003 till now, a matter that led to establishing a special court for crimes in Darfur due to Doha Agreement for Peace in Darfur (DAPD), saying the Ministry of Justice has limited his duties in accordance with Chapter18 of the Criminal Law that relates to investigation and interrogation in the war crimes, terrorism, genocide, and humanitarian and international cases
He said that the top properties in the coming stage is to establish a permanent headquarters of his office in El-Fashir in addition to construction of a number of branches of the Special Court for Crimes in in Nyala and Geneina towns, besides hearing the cases before the courts and backing up the reconciliations
On challenges that are facing the Court, he stressed the court's ability to address all criminal actions without discrimination taking into consideration the cultural heritance of the people of Darfur which is based on tolerance
The General Prosecutor indicated that he will remain in North Darfur State to push all files ahead and then will leave to the states of South and West Darfur States for the same purpose
He also said that there are distingushed efforts and steps that have been adopted by the Ministry of Justice to carry out criminal justice and to boost it in Darfur region, calling on all the official and people's authorities in Darfur to cooperate and deal with the Special Courtfor about crimes in Darfur with honesty and transparency in order to lay down the pillars of justice in Darfur
