Sudan Ambassador to Ethiopia and its permanent envoy for the African Union, Gen. Abdul-Rahman Siral-Khatim, has underscored importance of the upcoming Extraordinary African Summit, at which Sudan will take part with a delegation headed by the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir . The ministerial council for preparation for the African Summit began meetings yesterday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa In a press statement, Ambassador Gen. Siral-Khatim said that a summit is expected to be held between the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, and the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir . He said that the upcoming extraordinary African Union summit will deliberate about the African Union's Golden Jubilee, scheduled on May 25th, adding that Sudan was a founder of the Organization of the African Union (OAU) in 1963 which later became the African Union He said that the African Presidents and Heads of State will discuss in the coming extraordinary summit the vision upon which the African Union was founded as well as the future of the African Union, adding that the extraordinary summit will be followed by the ordinary African Summit which will discuss current issues and pending challenges . Ambassador Gen. Siral-Khatim said that the African Union has addressed all the member states to celebrate the African Union's Golden Jubilee throughout the year and adopt national programs on this occasion He appreciated the role and its efforts of the African Union in addressing Sudan issues and its contribution to realization of peace between Sudan and South Sudan, referring to the efforts being done by the African Union's High-Level Implementation Panel on Sudan, which is headed by the former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki
First Vice President and head of the higher council for agricultural renaissance Ali Osman Mohammed Taha received the final report of the Gezira Scheme Performance Review Committee which was delivered by head of the committee Dr. Taj Al-Sir Mustafa.. Dr. Mustafa said the report included the outcomes of the meetings of the committee with the partners and parties concerned with the project. He explained that the project comprised 7 major points and future visions regarding the issues in question and how said visions can be implemented and through which mechanisms . Taha commended the report methodology and said it will find its way to implementation on the ground .. The report, Taha said, included points dealing with the scheme's institutional and administrative status, infrastructure, water systems and supply, agricultural production, financing and marketing, service units, and free proprietors of land's issues . He said the committee held 99 meetings over three months covering the presidency, government, experts, land owners, farmers, companies, political leaders, parties, vocational and engineering and media unions and groups . The committee, he continued, has also utilized reports made on the scheme since 1998, and books and memos as well .
Chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), Dr. Al-Tigani Al-Sessi, stood Wednesday on the performance of a number of ministries affiliated to Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) in Al-Fasher city He was acquainted with the plans and projects done for the voluntary repatriation of the displaced people and refugees to their home areas as well as the efforts done in the education and services domains This came during the visits paid by Dr. Al-Sessi to Ministries of Health, Culture and Information, Environment, Youth and Sports, Reconstruction and Infrastructures, Agriculture and the Commission of Justice and Reconciliations . He stressed on the need for coordination between these ministries to implement to implement the programs and projects of the DRA and giving real information to the stakeholders and parties about the Doha document for Peace in Darfur .
The Foreign Minister, Ali Ahmed Kart, yesterday arrived in Addis Ababa to take part at the meetings of the ministerial council of the African Union, which began Wednesday, for preparation to the extraordinary and ordinary summits of the African Union . The African Union Extraordinary Summit of the African Union will begin on May 25th, while the Ordinary AU Summit is scheduled to begin during May 26 - 28, with participation of the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir .
The President of the Republic Omer Albashir received today Wednesday at the Republican Palace the credentials of the Ambassadors of Belarus and Ghana to Sudan, both resident in Cairo, Egypt. He also received the credentials of the ambassador of Pakistan to Sudan and ambassador of Portugal resident in Cairo, Egypt. The ceremony was attended by Minister of the Presidency Bakri Hassan Salih and Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Karti.
