The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, has called on the Security Council to approve sending 1126 additional international peace-keeping troops to Abyei area .. In a report he forwarded to the Security Council, the UN Secretary General said that the existence of armed groups in Abyei area is still posing a remarkable threat, a matter that necessitates boosting the UN peace-keeping force and increasing its number . In a press statement, the Foreign Ministry's spokesman, Ambassador bu-Bakr Al-Siddiq, said that the call of the UN Secretary General for increasing the number of the peace-keeping force at Abyei came in the context of a recent agreement between Sudan and South Sudan State and the UN for protection of the disarmed zone, which includes Abyei area according to the agreements which were signed recently . It is to be recalled that the existing UN Interim Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is composed of 4000 troops, most of them are Ethiopians, while the maximum number allowed, according to the Security Council resolution, is 4200 peace-keeping troops .
